broughton transport and palletways

It’s been an incredible year since Broughton Transport Solutions officially joined the Palletways UK network.

Operating out of their Norrington Lane base, this family-owned logistics specialist provides a comprehensive suite of services, from warehousing and storage to wide-scale European haulage. Their integration into the Palletways family in Autumn 2024 was a strategic move designed to bolster freight support for businesses throughout the Wiltshire region.

Toby Ovens, managing director at Broughton, said: “Joining Palletways gave us an excellent opportunity to grow our customer base locally and offer cost effective transport options for both existing and also new customers.”

He adds: “Working in partnership with Palletways this year we’ve added value to our existing services through its advanced IT systems, including intelligent monitoring and tracking systems which give customers of all sizes freight visibility through live updates. We aim to grow our pallet transport services by investing in our fleet and our people and ultimately expand our geographic reach. We’re delighted to mark our business anniversary with Palletways and look forward to extending the opportunities that being part of Europe’s largest network brings.”

A Shared Vision for Wiltshire

The partnership has allowed Palletways to leverage Broughton’s deep-rooted regional expertise, ensuring that local deliveries are handled with the care only a long-standing local firm can provide.

Warwick Trimble, Palletways’ network director, adds: “Broughton is a vibrant and progressive business, with a great work ethic and a stellar history in the regional haulage sector. Broughton is a great asset and we can draw on its experience and local knowledge to grow our presence in and around Wiltshire.”

Eight Generations of Logistics Excellence

The story of Broughton Transport Solutions is one of remarkable evolution. The firm’s roots stretch back to 1866, when founders James and Amelia Mortimer began a door-to-door produce trade. By the 1970s, the company had shifted its focus to haulage, eventually rebranding as Broughton Transport Solutions in 2013.

Now led by Toby Ovens, an eighth-generation member of the Mortimer family, the company has become a premier “one-stop shop” for temperature-controlled and ambient transport across the UK and Europe. With a dedicated workforce of 140 employees and a substantial fleet featuring 96 vehicles and 130 trailers, they are a formidable force in the industry.

The Power of the Network

Broughton is a key player among the 120+ independent transport specialists that form the backbone of Palletways UK. By pooling resources and expertise, these members can move palletised goods with unmatched speed and efficiency.

As part of the wider Palletways Group, which boasts over 450 depots and 20 major hubs, Broughton helps facilitate seamless distribution across 24 European countries, backed by the industry’s most sophisticated tracking and operational technology.
