Power BI & Data Analytics Specialist
Purpose of the role
Palletways is seeking an experienced and highly capable Power BI & Data Analytics Specialist to take ownership of our established and business-critical BI platform. In recent years, we have invested significantly in building a comprehensive data warehouse and a suite of Power BI dashboards that provide actionable insights across our commercial, operational, and financial functions. With the departure of our current analyst, who has successfully led this transformation, we are now looking for a talented individual to take over the function and continue driving the development of data-led decision-making across the business. This role is central to our ongoing digital strategy and offers a unique opportunity to shape the future of data and analytics within the organisation.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the maintenance, development, and enhancement of Palletways’ Power BI environment and underlying data warehouse.
- Collaborate with stakeholders across multiple departments to gather reporting requirements and translate them into intuitive, high-impact dashboards and reports.
- Ensure the reliability, consistency, and accessibility of data across the business through effective data modelling and integration.
- Act as the internal subject matter expert and advocate for Power BI, promoting adoption and best practices across the group.
- Explore opportunities to incorporate predictive analytics, machine learning, and AI-driven insights into the reporting suite to support forward-looking decision-making.
- Maintain data governance standards and ensure compliance with security and privacy requirements.
- Contribute to the organisation’s data and analytics community, sharing knowledge and staying up to date with developments in BI technology.
Essential Skills and Experience
- Strong experience in developing and maintaining Power BI solutions, including advanced DAX, Power Query, and data modelling techniques.
- Experience working with an enterprise-level data warehouse.
- Proficiency in SQL and handling large, complex datasets from varied data sources.
- Solid understanding of ETL processes, data transformation, and integration across systems.
- Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with technical teams and non-technical stakeholders to gather requirements and deliver data solutions.
- Experience in administering the Power BI environment, including managing workspaces, permissions, and data gateways.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail, with a logical and methodical approach to analysis.
- Strong communication skills—both written and verbal—with the ability to present insights clearly and effectively
Desirable Skills
- Experience with AWS data services, such as Glue, or S3-based data lakes.
- Exposure to predictive analytics, machine learning, or AI, using tools such as Python, R, or AWS ML services.
- Familiarity with DevOps practices, including version control and deployment pipelines for BI solutions.
- Experience working in a commercial, logistics, or supply chain environment.
What We Offer
- The opportunity to take ownership of a mature, strategically important BI function with high visibility across the business.
- Strong support from senior leadership and cross-functional teams committed to data-driven decision-making.
- A collaborative and forward-thinking working environment with opportunities for continued professional development.
- Flexibility in working arrangements, including the possibility to work remotely from home, depending on business needs.
- The chance to directly influence how data is used across our European network to deliver real business impact.
