Christmas has come early for Acorns Children’s Hospice thanks to a grand donation from Palletways Birmingham.

Staff at Fradley-based Palletways Birmingham Depot raised £1,000 for Acorns, one of the company’s nominated charities, at an event to celebrate its 15th anniversary in business.

Charlotte Anson, Corporate Partnerships Officer at Acorns Children’s Hospice, said: “It is very generous of Palletways to mark such a significant milestone by supporting Acorns work. It costs over £9 million every year to run our three hospices and we rely on the generosity of the local community to raise the majority of this amount, so we offer our heartfelt thanks to the employees at Palletways and their clients for supporting Acorns.”

Kristie Hawkins, Customer Service Manager, from Palletways Birmingham Depot, added: “Staff at our head office in Fradley voted to support Acorns Children’s Hospice for the whole of 2015. I’m really pleased that so many people at the Birmingham Depot anniversary event dug so deep to raise this fantastic amount for Acorns. We’re continuing to fundraise for the charity during the whole of December with collection boxes at the depot and I hope the funding will make a difference to children this Christmas and beyond. ”

Palletways Birmingham is part of Palletways, Europe’s largest and fastest growing express palletised freight network. The business has grown significantly since its formation in 2000 – it started off handling around 73 pallets per month but now move closer to 15,000. To date, the company  has handled more than 1.76 million pallets for Palletways and is one of the largest members in the network.

Acorns Children's Hospice offers a range of specialist, individualised care for life-limited and life-threatened children and young people and support for their families, across the heart of England. In the last year Acorns has cared for over 760 children and provided support to more than 980 families, including those who are bereaved.
